Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 24 : Delegation of Jammu and Kashmir College Teachers Association (JKCTA) led by its President Dr Sanjay Verma met Commissioner/Secretary, Higher Education Department, Sarita Chouhan to discuss issues related to teaching fraternity. In the meeting demand of issuance of order of placement of teachers in Associate Professors grade which is pending for a long time was raised. President of the Association informed her that there was maximum number of cases, whose placement to associate grade is pending and most of the teachers are either on the verge of reaching the next grade or have already crossed. The Secretary assured that this matter would be redressed on priority basis and some positive action will be taken shortly. The Association further stressed that the college teachers who were detained on examination duty during the summer vacations and who surrender their remuneration should be treated on duty during that period. This demand was earlier raised with the department but till now no directions in this regard have been issued by the Department. The association highly resented the harassment of college teachers by some Principals of the colleges, threatening and boasting of having proximity with the higher ups in the HE department and using their resources in transferring the teachers, when and if there arises some points of difference between staff and the Principals, on certain issues regarding college affairs, thereby vitiating the academic atmosphere of the colleges. The withholding of pay of college teachers, without intimation to the affected teachers by some college Principals, for more than four months was also taken up with the commissioner /Secretary. Who expressed that such cases should be brought in her notice immediately. The association also raised demands of extending the benefit of SRO-222 to the college teachers, Release of grant for salary, creation of post of Professors. Others who were part of delegation included Prof DS Manhas, Prof Narayan Dutt, Dr Anil Ganjoo, Dr Sunil Gupta and Prof Hans Raj. |
