Jammu, Nov 24: Due to infighting and insistence of the party ministers favouring their blue eyed candidates instead of adopting a consensual approach, the election of new district presidents of ruling Bhartiya Janta Party is getting delayed. Even as only a few days are left for the election of State president, the party has so far failed to conduct election of all the district presidents, who will formally elect the new BJP chief in Jammu and Kashmir for the next three years, replacing the incumbent Jugal Kishore Sharma. Except in a few districts like Udhampur, the issue of elections has exposed the tall claims of BJP, which pretends to be most disciplined party with a difference. According to the sources in BJP circles, the party ministers and newly elected Mandal presidents are face to face against each other over the issue of suitable candidates as district presidents. While the ministers and senior leaders are adamant to get their blue eyed and favourites installed as district presidents, particularly of their area, the Mandal presidents are opposing the same, sources explained. For example in Kathua, sources informed, the Minister for Health Choudhary Lal Singh and MLA Kathua Rajiv Jasrotia have joined hands toget their favourite Bholi Singh installed as new district president. However, on the other hand, the Mandal presidents of Kathua districtare in favour of Gopal Mahajan as the district president. Similarly in other organizational districts of BJP, the lack of consensus between Mandal presidents and local MLAs or the minister is delaying election of the new president, sources said and added that the party high command as well as Sangh Parivar have been apprised of the situation. As the new State president needs to be elected in first week of December, sources said that the party high command is likely to intervene over the issue of district presidents. |
