Differences between Nirmal Singh, PDP minister come to fore

ET Report
SRINAGAR, Nov 24: For the first time differences between PDP and BJP ministers have come out in the open. This became evident during the review meeting of District Development Board (DDB) decisions for district Srinagar held here on Tuesday.
Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh chose to stay away from this meeting which was presided over by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. Dr Singh decided to boycott the meeting owing to serious differences with a senior PDP Minister.
BJP sources told Early Times that differences came to fore out between Singh and the PDP minister after the PDP Minister released about Rs 10 crores grant for workshops repairing transformers directly in favour of the companies instead of routing it through the Power Development Department (PDD) held by the Deputy Chief Minister.
As per the practice, the Finance Department had to release funds in favour of the PDD, which had to make further payments to the workshops repairing the damaged transformers of the PDD. However, in this case, the Minister directly made the payments, thus, bypassing the PDD Ministry.
"As a mark of protest, the Deputy Chief Minister decided not to attend review meeting of the DDB Srinagar, which was held today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed,'' sources said. They said that Singh has already brought the matter to the notice of Chief Minister.
However a senior BJP leader wishing anonymity told Early Times that due to the fog deputy chief minister could not attend the meeting. He said since all the flights were cancelled due to inclement weather Nirmal Singh could not make it to Srinagar and attend the review meeting of DDB decisions for district Srinagar.
During the meeting the Chief Minister issued directions to review implementation of decisions taken with regard to take stock of essential supplies and commodities, solid waste management plans and flood protection measures.
Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Asgar Hassan Samoon, Director General, Information & PR, Zaffar Ahmad, Development Commissioner Power, Gul Ayaz, besides DCs and HoDs of Kashmir valley attended the meeting.
