Expelled Jammu artisan seeks Director's intervention | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 25: The Pragati Maidan trade fair, New Delhi, has been turned into nightmare for the Jammu based artisan as she was expelled from the fair by the JK Handicrafts department, allegedly on frivolous issues. The artisan namely Renu Thakural who went to IITF to sell Jammu products after raising loans worth Rs 2.5 lakhs was expelled from the JK Pavallion without citing any reason. Her expulsion came a day before the arrival of the Industries minister CP Ganga at New Delhi for inspection of stalls in the trade fair. Resented over the attitude of the Handicrafts department, the aggrieved artisan wrote a letter to the Director Handicrafts to show her resentment on one hand and circumstances created by the department which paved the way for her expulsion on other hand. In her letter to the Director Handicrafts, she said that he had misunderstanding about the presence of the Kashmir artisan in her stall as the Kashmiri artisan namely Zaffar Ahmed was dispatched with her as helper duly sealed by Joint Director Handicrafts, adding, Director was informed that she had stolen the stall to the Kashmiri artisan which was totally baseless as it was Zaffar in her stall. She also said that with the expulsion, she had credit of Rs 2.5 lakh as loan which she is unable to waived off. Pertinently, the tug of war between the artisan and the department started at the IITF Pragati Maidan. The allegations and counter allegations started when a Jammu based embroidery stall was forcefully shut by the JK Handicrafts employees. The lady artisans namely Thakurals alleged that her joint stall was shut as they refused to pay an amount of Rs one lakh to the JK Handicrafts officers, adding, the lady officer earlier started harassing them on various pretext and finally demanded Rs one lakh and later fifty thousand. |
