VC SMVDU's tenure cut short by 2 years | Registrar appointment as per UGC norms remains a distant dream | | Sumit Sharma Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 25: Governor N.N Vohra, who is also the Chancellor of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), has set a search committee for the appointment of the new Vice Chancellor. The Governor was chairing the 24th meeting of the Executive Council of the university at Kakryal in Katra on Monday last when the decision was taken. The Governor's decision to cut short the tenure of the present Vice Chancellor Sudhir K Jain two years earlier has raised many questions. Jain's three years tenure as VC of the University comes to an end on 16 February 2016. As per University Grant Commission's (UGC) guidelines, the Vice Chancellor's tenure should be of 5 years (3 years plus 2 years). However with this decision, all hopes are started pinning on Guv in respect of Registrar's post for which the SMVDU has always remained under scanner as 10 years on; University has yet to get Registrar whose appointment is to be made as per UGC's guidelines. If the sources are to be believed, the Registrar which is an administrative post has become a subject of mockery in SMVDU as since its inception the SMVDU authorities did not flout any advertisement for the post of Registrar nor any search committee is learnt to have set. It is alleged that till date, the University accommodate blue eyed persons only. The present Registrar who is the administrator of the university is himself a violator of the UGC norms. Neither he has 15-year experience as administrator in any educational institution nor has 8-year experience as Deputy Registrar, sources maintained. |
