Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 25: A delegation comprising displaced persons of 1947, 1965, and 1971, those living near International border and Actual Line of Control, victims of flood met Governor N.N Vohra, here at the Raj Bhavan. The delegation was led by Madan Lal Sharma, former Member Parliament, and included among others Sardar Manjeet Singh, former Minister. The delegation apprised the Governor about various hardships being faced by the border dwellers on account of frequent shelling at IB and LoC. Stating that the relief announced in PM's recently announced package as inadequate, the delegation demanded provision of 5 marlas of land; enhancement in ex-gratia amount; compensation for those whose land lies near the borders; concrete bunkers along the IB and LoC and reservation in government jobs for those living along the IB; enhanced financial support for the Displaced Persons of 1947, 1965, 1971; adequate support to the victims of September 2015 floods in the Jammu region; waiver off of KCC loan on account of total loss of crops due to heavy rains and floods last year. The Governor observed that the demands raised by the delegation shall be forwarded to the Chief Minister. |
