BJP appoints ex-militant for Srinagar constituency | U-turn on rehabilitation of militants | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 27: There seems to be no end to the entry of anti-national elements to the fold of BJP. This is despite the fact that the party has all along been advocating stern action against the anti-national elements. Sources told Early Times that BJP recently elected a former militant as president of one of the sensitive constituencies of summer capital of the state. The person elected to head BJP in this constituency is not owned by his family members but still then the party chose him to take an all important assignment in the party. "This former militant has been elected as President of the constituency where the BJP had a great chance of winning the assembly elections last time around. Same did not happen due to the division of votes among a community which holds a pivotal position in the constituency. The BJP has crossed all the limits by appointing a former militant as President of this constituency," said sources. The constituency is now-a-days being represented by a legislator of National Conference and it falls close to the vicinity of the summer capital of state. Pertinently the former militant runs a hotel in yet another important area of Srinagar city. "The election of former militant to this constituency has not gone well with the well wishers of the party. There are people who are willing to join the BJP and discharge the responsibilities within the party fold. However, the party higher ups have chosen a former militant to lead the party in one of the most important constituencies of the Srinagar district much to the surprise of deserving ones," said sources. This is not for the first time that state unit of BJP more so its Kashmir unit is in the news for the wrong reasons. In the past as well allegations were leveled against the local BJP leaders that former militants, renegades and novices were given important assignments in the party at the local level. "Encouragement to the former militants is well against the stated policy of BJP at the national level. The party has all along been opposing the rehabilitation policy of former militants, but in Kashmir the party is adopting a different course of action. In addition to this the people who are quite new to the party are being given important assignments," said sources. Sources said that most of the BJP leaders in Kashmir are not well versed with the parliamentary nuances of democracy since they are not well educated. They said that talented people who are quite well qualified have been relegated to non-significant positions where they have little say in the overall management of party affairs. "It is highly unfortunate that people who were non-entities in the BJP have become too important in the past one year or so. Success has gone to the head of these unimportant people and they have become arrogant while dealing with the party workers. They are not ready to listen to any of the suggestions and are under an impression that whatever they do is right irrespective of the repercussions," said sources. Sources said that the central leadership of the party has given a free hand to the people who are hell bent on damaging the overall image of BharatiyaJanta Party in the state. These people consider themselves above all the people who played a key role in making BJP a strong and vibrant force on the political horizon of the country.
