LeT terrorist Naveed requests for warm clothes in jail | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 11: After requesting the court to ask National Investigation Agency (NIA) to let him talk to his parents in Pakistan on phone, Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist Mohammad Naveed on Friday sought warm clothes for him in jail. "Na to mujhe garm kapde diye gaye hein aur na hi jute (neither have I been provided with warm clothes nor shoes)," said Naveed on being asked about his health by the Special Judge for NIA cases Y P Kotwal. "Judge Sahib, Thand Lagti Hai (Sir, I feel cold)," he said, adding that he has so far been provided only kurta-pyjama. Responding to his request, the judge directed the superintendent of high security Kot Bhalwal jail here to provide him warm clothes. During earlier hearings in the court, Naveed had requested the judge to ask NIA to let him talk to his parents in Pakistan on phone. For this, he was given telephone numbers of his parents and friends in Pakistan which were not in operation. He along with another Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist from Pakistan, Abu Nomen, had attacked a BSF convoy killing two para military personnel and injuring nearly a dozen others at Narsu Nullah on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Udhampur district in early August this year. While Nomen was killed in retaliatory fire by para military personnel, Naveed was captured by local people at a nearby village where he fled after the attack. Naveed along with five of his local aides was produced before the court on Friday morning after the expiry of their 14-day judicial remand. The judge, following NIA request, extended their judicial remand for another 12 days. His aide Showkat Ahmed, however, complained the court that they were not provided meals on time. "The lunch is served at 4 pm and the dinner by 7-7.30 pm,'' he added. Meanwhile, the court also issued non-bailable arrest warrant against one Asif Hussain for involvement in a conspiracy to carry out terror attack on BSF convoy at Udhampur. This followed request from NIA who said that Asif's name figured during questioning of Naveed's aides arrested in the matter. The NIA is likely to present challan in Udhampur terror attack case by December end without waiting for the apprehension of nearly half a dozen Lashkar terrorists including a woman who are still at large in the Valley. The woman along with her husband Khurshid Ahmed of Kulgam had accompanied both the Pakistani terrorists from Valley to Narsu Nullah in their Maruti car. They drove the car ahead of the truck carrying terrorists so as to alert them in case of any police naka along the highway. Khurshid, however, stands arrested by the NIA. The other terrorists included Abu Dujana who took over as Laskhar operational commander in the Valley after the killing of Udhampur terror attack mastermind Abu Qasim, and his deputy Abu Akasha. Both of them are also wanted by Delhi Police for having hatched a conspiracy to carry out suicide attacks in Delhi. Sources said that that supplementary challans will be filed against those arrested later. |
