ET Report jammu, Dec 11: Authorities of the Jammu University have meted out step-motherly treatment to the contractual lecturers engaged in Distance Education Department. As per the documents in possession of Early Times, Section 22 of J&K Universities Act 1969, interalia provides that the Vice-Chancellor may make appointments of teachers referred in this section as a temporary measure for a period not exceeding six months to carry on the work for the academic session. Going by the power vested with the Vice-Chancellor, he exercised his power authorizing Registrar to re-engage contractual lecturers from 13-2-2015 for another six months in the departments of Biochemistry, Microbiology, Botony, Commerce, Dogri, Education, Environmental Sciences, Geography, Geology, Hindi, History, Library & Information Science, BBA, MBA (HT), Math, Electronics, Psychology, Punjabi, Sociology, Statistics, Urdu, English, Earth Sciences, Human Genetics, Law School, Economics, Sericulture, Physical Education, and Women's Studies. Sources informed Early Times that Registrar JU gave six months extension to the contractual lecturers in the off-site and other departments of main campus, but in the similar nature of case of extension pertaining to contractual lecturers engaged in Distance Education Department for first six months in the same session, the Registrar adopted different yardstick and declined to grant further extension of six months sources said. They said that Registrar was rather adamant to give extension in piecemeal to harass the contractual faculty. |
