Doc-pharmacist shops nexus in GMC hospital Jammu

Jammu, Dec 11: Contradicting the claims of Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education Department to restrict the entry of agents of some pharmacist shops in the government runs hospitals, but agents of some these shops openly roaming in the Emergency ward and other wards of Government Medical College (GMC) and Hospital Jammu to boost the sales of their shops.
A doctor at GMC Hospital Jammu told Early Times on the condition of anonymity that few months ago the Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Department was restricted the entry of agents of pharmacist shops and others in the premises of the hospital but some pharmacist shops' agent are continuously roaming in the emergency ward as well as few others wards to increase the sales of their shops.
"I was treating a patient in emergency ward asked to his attendant to buy the medicine and the attendants come back to me within a minute and i asked to him, why you have not gone outside for buying the medicine which prescribed, he (attendant) told me that as he walked few steps, a agent of any pharmacist shop come forward and asked to him as why are you going, give slip to me (agent), I buy medicine for you as you will get the medicine the money will give to me," the doctors shared his experience and shocked when he came to know that theses agents are too active in the premises of the hospital.
Another case of a patient come to know that who had to under gone (stone in the gallbladder) surgery and he was admitted here days before the operation date meanwhile doctors recommended numbers of tests, out of this the most of tests had to be conducted outside the hospital. A day before the surgery doctors on duty given a list of the medicines which has to be used after surgery in between a agent was standard outside the ward and asked him same.
However, Medical Superintendent of GMC Hospital Jammu, Dr. Ravinder Rattan Paul said that it was not his notice, if such types of activities are running in the premises of the hospital, the action will be taken against these agents as well as those who are involved in this.
Sources at GMC informed that the nexus has been running with the help of few doctors who allow the agent for roaming in the wards of the hospital and politely ask to attendants for buying medicines their shops or they (agents) will bring medicines for them. Those doctors helping them to flourish their business in the hospital, also getting commission from them as well as few doctors also prescribed medicine from particular shop.
