JAMMU, Dec 11: Tawi Trekkers J&K, the pioneer trekking club of J&K, celebrated 'International Year of Mountains' at Sprawling Buds School, Chinore, here by involving young students in climbing competition and awareness programme. General secretary of the Club, Shawetica Khajuria while addressing the gathering of students and teachers, highlighted the importance of mountains for human race. Since this year the theme of International Year of the Mountains is 'Products of the Mountains, Shawetica dwelt at length the high value of products found only in the mountains. She also had an interaction with the students about mountaineering and trekking. The students were glad to learn so much about the mountains and their importance. In the end, a Sport Climbing competition was organized wherein about 100 students from class third to class seventh participated. Isha Singh was coordinator of the event. The competition was conducted under the supervision of Anil Kumar, sport climbing coach. Shashi Sharma and Sakshi Magotra were the route setter and Judge of the competition. Prominent among others present included secretary Mountaineering Association of J&K, Ram Khajuria, Directors of Sprawling Buds School, Rahul Sharma and Arti Sharma asand. The Results: Sub Junior Boys: Ritesh Sharma, Ist; Mandeep Singh, 2nd and Saiyam Bhat, 3rd.Sub Junior Girls: Asma Gul, Ist and Sunandini, 2nd. Mini Boys: Rudra Pratap Singh, Ist; Randeep Singh, 2nd and Akshad Sharma, 3rd. Mini Girls: Arushi, Ist and Sonakshi, 2nd. |
