'Sales Tax officials harass traders' | Association calls for shutdown | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 11: Shahidi Chowk Rajinder Bazar and G M Chowk Traders Welfare Association have expressed resentment over surprise raids being conducted by officials of the Sale Tax Department Jammu. They have called for a shutdown against these raids. In a statement the president of the association Harbans Singh said, "Around 70 persons from sales tax office raided JJ Market and Kanak Mandi area of Jammu City without giving any prior notice. This is not for the first time that the sales tax officers have conducted raids without any prior notice. Singh said, "As the word about the raid spread we reached the spot and asked the officials the reason for the raid but they didn't give any reason and insisted upon taking a few shopkeepers along. However, their move was resisted as shopkeepers staged a protest following which officials left." He said after holding threadbare discussion it was decided that traders would observe a complete shutdown against the harassment by sales tax office as such raids are defaming the traders and these raids need to be checked.
