Will Mehbooba check political deluge after Mufti Sayeed's demise?

What after Mufti Mohd. Sayeed? This is the question that worried people and those in the PDP and the BJP. Though the BJP has announced that the alliance will not break meaning thereby that the coalition Government will continue. And the BJP has also announced to support Mehbooba Mufti if she was installed as Chief Minister. Well compared to Dr Farooq Abdullah of 1981 when he was appointed President of the National Conference, and Omar Abdullah of 1998 when he was inducted as a junior Minister in the Council of Ministers, headed by Atal Behari Vajpayee Mehbooba has better political experience and administrative skill. When Farooq was appointed NC President he was a political novice and when Omar was inducted in the Union Ministry he had no political experience. This way people expect the level of governance under Mehbooba to improve because she is considered as a tough task master. Well her success will be measured by the level of development works she will be able to launch in the state. Her success as Chief Minister will be measured by her efforts on resolving the problem of unemployment. Her focus should be to improve governance and end corruption and that she can fulfill her mission if she gives the security management in the hands of police and paramilitary forces. In fact as far as the organization is concerned her success will have to be watched if she is able to consolidate and strengthen the PDP vote bank. Not only this as CM she is supposedto win back some disgruntled PDP men, including Muzaffar Hussain Baigh, Tariq Hameed Karra and Ghulam Hassan Mir. Mir had been thrown out of the party several years ago even when he was one of the founders of the PDP. She could even try for roping in Hakim Mohd. Yasin who used to be a member of the cabinet headed by Mufti Mohd. Sayeed in 2002. As far as people are concerned Mehbooba has to initiate some important people friendly measures and policies. First of all she would receive accolades if she is successful in ensuring round the clock electricity supply to the people in all the three regions. Already the National Conference has intensified its stir against the plan of the coalition Government to extend National Food Security Act. Though the PDP plans to get the Central Act extended to the state after securing approval from the State Legislature Mehbooba should explain to people merits of the Act. Is there any truth behind the NC campaign in which it has unnerved people telling them that more tthan 40 lakh people will be deprived of supply of ration at cheap rates. The tasks are difficult but Mehbooba needs to cultivate rather emulate her father's political decency. Let Mehbooba discard the habit of being touchy and losing cool over triffles. As Chief Minister she has to look after all the sections of the society and all the three regions so that the campaign against regional discrimination loses steam. As far as economic development and launching of various development schemes are concerned Mehbooba has to bank on Central Government's financial assistance. Here lies the duty of the BJP led NDA Government to help the coalition Government to succeed. Another issue awaiting Mehbooba's intervention is the service tax imposed on passengers using helicopters to visit the shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi. Let she explain to the Finance Minister that the service tax is scrapped it will not amount to heavy financial loss to the state and instead earn the goodwill of people not only in the state but in the rest of the country. She has to work hard and ensure that the PDP does not face any erosion in its vote bank as had happened to the NC during Farooq and Omar. The NC remained on the top under Sheikh Abdullah's Chief Ministership.And there will be no harm if she is able to convince the Central Government for resuming the process of dialogue with the separatists which could allow Mehbooba a breathing time. If the separatists remain engaged in the process of parleys with the Central Government they would get hardly any time to indulge in acts of violence. If Mehbooba faulters the state will witness a political deluge.
