JAMMU, Jan 8: Notwithstanding the repeated slew of guidelines issued by apex court over the posting of tainted officials, a senior police official, involved in land grabbing, has been posted at a very sensitive position.
The police official has reportedly knocked the door of Housing Board to get regularized the encroached strip of land but the fate of the application is still unknown.
Sources informed Early Times that a senior level police official, who has raised a palatial house in Channi Himmat, has encroached upon a large strip of land and that too of nullah. "The encroachment of nullah by this police official is also violation of High Court orders, which prohibits construction near water bodies given the 2014 devastating floods in Kashmir valley".
They further informed that nearly 10 Marlas of land has been encroached by the official, who has constructed a swimming pool in the encroached portion of land. "The cost of land is in several Lakhs and this police official has been exerting pressure on the Housing Board officials to regularize the encroached land", sources said, adding that an application was also forwarded to the office of Managing Director of Housing Board for his approval.
Criticizing further, sources said that it was a modus operandi adopted by officials from State Government and police officials, who firstly encroach upon the land and then apply for regularization. "Either by using their political pressure or by greasing the palms, these officials get the land regularized", sources said, adding that same modus operandi was adopted by the official.
An official of Housing Board of Unit-I, pleading anonymity said that they had conveyed to the police official to vacate the land, on which he has constructed a swimming pool. "But instead of removing the encroachment, same official has been saying that he has applied for regularization. So far the official has not removed the encroachment and land is under his possession", the official said.
Managing Director of JK Housing Board, Shafiq Ahmed Raina said, "Few days back, I have rejoined the office after IAS training. So far no such regularization of land in favour of any officer has been ordered".
He further said that in his absence, the incharge was given to some other official but that officer had reportedly also not done any such regularization order. "Without my permission no such land will be regularized and I will take proper action if required", he said.
