50 jobs under SRO 349, ten times hike in prize money to medal winners | Govt committee recommends enormous incentives to sports persons | | Shiv Dev Thakur

JAMMU, Jan 8: The committee constituted by the government to recommend cash and other incentives to the outstanding sportsmen of the state who win medals at various national and international competitions has prepared a detailed draft of recommendations, which can largely improve the lot of sportsmen of the state, who have been complaining of raw deal for years. Sources divulged that the committee was constituted under the chairmanship of director general sports, with Director Technical Education, Director Finance, and Secretary Sports Council, Aman Sharma, Senior coach of the Sports authority of India and eminent cricketer Parvez Rasool as its members has met twice and has prepared a comprehensive draft that will bring about complete transparency in the gradation of outstanding sportspersons and prioritize their claims for awards and incentives. The committee is also recommending other incentives to them like free travel in government transport, increase in number of sportsmen offered government jobs under SRO 349, free insurance to the outstanding sportspersons and award of plots/flats of the government agencies on priority. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Joint Secretary J&K State Sports Council who attended a meeting of the committee on behalf of the secretary sports council told ET that recommendations being forwarded to the government are likely to improve the lot of sportspersons who had complaints of being meted out a raw deal in comparison to their counterparts from other states. "The recommendations shall help in objective and transparent gradation of every sportspersons and they can evaluate themselves in the light of their achievements on the basis of roaster points system carefully designed by the committee" he said. "The committee has recommended cash incentives ranging from 75 lakhs for an Olympic gold medalist to 5 lakh rupees for a national games gold medal winner. The committee has also recommended that number of sportspersons offered government jobs under SRO 349 may be doubled to 50 from 25" he added. The recommendations are likely to be forwarded to the government for approval and if approved, they shall prove to be great morale booster for th sportspersons of the state. |
