PDP Minister skips Mufti's funeral | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jan 8: A Minister from the Peoples Democratic Party has left the party rank and file dumb in shock by his absence during the last rites of party patriarch and Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. Friday, when Mufti's mortal remains were being taken for Nimaz Jinazah, many of the mourners remained curious looking for this Minister, but couldn't find him anywhere. Finally when the funeral, after congregational Nimaz E Jinazah, left for Bijbehara town of south Kashmir, the mourners from within the PDP circles, started inquiring about their colleague who was absent. "Where is he when everyone from PDP to BJP to Congress and even National Conference is present?" said a leader while pointing towards prominent among the mourners. Those present at the funeral included Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Omar Abdullah, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Dr Nirmal Singh, Ali Sagar and almost everyone from the PDP including its "rebel MPs" Muzaffar Beigh and Tariq Hameed Karra. As the mourners started gossiping about the absence of the Minister, someone said he was out of station to attend a crucial meeting in New Delhi and that could not be avoided. "He had to represent the State as the Minister there. Without him representation of the State would have been incomplete and it would tell upon the future economy of the State," the man, a middle rung Government official close to the Minister, was heard telling. This was when some PDP leaders questioned the claims. "Who are you people trying to befool? You must know that with the death of the Chief Minister, the Cabinet ceases to exist so when the Ministry didn't exist, in what capacity was he representing the State," asked a well-known person. This was when leaders from within PDP who have been looking at this Minister as "inexperienced and mis-adventurous" took a serious note of his absence. "The man who didn't share our grief and failed to ensure his presence in the funeral should not be given space in this party any more… We will definitely pick up the issue with the party high command at appropriate time," said some PDP leaders. They said the moment the four day mourning is over and the first meeting of the party is held, they would discuss the matter threadbare with the "high command". "PDP has been a party of loyalists who live to prove the maxim a friend in need is a friend in deed... Such disloyalty should not be tolerated as it will set a bad precedence in the PDP," the PDP leaders said, adding "The one who did not prove loyal to Mufti Sahib on his death will never be loyal to the PDP. Such persons are nothing but black-sheep." Despite repeated attempts, the Minister who was absent at the funeral could not be contacted for comments. |
