Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 8: University of Jammu (JU) has prepared itself to host affiliated colleges for the annual inter-college men and women cricket tournament starting from tomorrow on the main campus, here. This time, the JU has created state of the art infrastructure for one of the most favourite sports disciplines among the college students. As per the data available with the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education of JU, cricket is the only discipline which attracts maximum participation that too from far off colleges. "To start with, we are holding inter-college women's cricket tournament from tomorrow. However, the response was not that encouraging with only five teams finding place in already drawn fixture. On the other hand, the participation in men's section was on higher side with 31 teams from affiliated colleges confirming their entries," Director Sports and Physical Education, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau told. As per the fixture, the combined side of Post Graduate (PG) Department shall be playing against Government College for Women, Udhampur in the opening match of this knock-out event. Defending champion, GCW Gandhi Nagar and Government SPMR College of Commerce have been given bye. "It will be a Twenty20 Tournament in both the categories with men's event taking place from January 15. Since, the competition is being held on T20 pattern, we have scheduled two matches a day in morning and evening sessions," informed JU cricket coach, Raj Kumar Bakshi. |
