JAMMU, Jan 8: After the Pathankot terror attack, two senior police officers, in a dusk to dawn exercise, Friday carried out surprise checking of nakas and police stations in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts and ordered the attachment of nearly 90 cops, most of whom were on sentry duty, for dereliction of duties. The two officers set on their mission at about 11 pm Friday, according to police sources. While one limited the area of his inspection to Jammu district only, the other, a senior one, also toured Samba and Kathua districts, the sources informed. Sources said the Jammu district officer inspected nakas on the highway and at various other places in the city. He also visited the border areas and police stations. While most of the SHOs were found on duty, at least 50 cops in south Jammu and 37 in north Jammu, most of whom were on guard duty at various vital installations and at the residences of protected persons, were attached with the DPL, the sources added. Some cops, deployed at the residences of protected persons, were found absent, sources said and added that they too were attached with the DPL. Cops in Samba and Kathua were attached with the DPLs of the two districts by the senior officer, sources informed. The checking, which continued till late this evening, was carried out by the two officers to observe the alertness of cops at nakas and in police stations in view of the terror attack on Pathankote air force station. |
