HC directive on increase in pension of disabled persons | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 13: Observing that the finance department's counsel had sought one week's time to get instructions as regards the enhancement of pension of the disabled persons, which was announced by the government on the floor of the House, a high court division bench of Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Bansi Lal Bhat today directed Registry to list the case on February 16 next. The court has treated as PIL a letter written to it by the chairman of Disabled Welfare Association of J&K High Court as regards the enhancement of their pension in which it has been submitted that at present the pension of handicapped persons of J&K is too meagre as compared to other states, like Uttrakhand, which is paying Rs 800 to old age and handicapped persons and widows and Harayana, which is paying Rs 1,000 to the handicapped and Rs 800 to the old and widows. The letter says that during the 2nd last Assembly session, it was announced that their pension would be enhanced within six months, but no action has been taken so far even as the prices of daily use items and other things are increasing with the passage of every day and it is becoming very difficult for the disabled persons to manage their daily life and they are waiting for the immediate enchantment of their pensions. The bench observed that the finance department counsel had sought one week time finally to get instructions regarding the enhancement of pension of the disabled persons, which was announced by the government on the floor of legislature and for implementation of the concurrence of the finance department as sought for as per the status report filed by the social welfare department and directed Registry to list the case on February 16 next. |
