Mehbooba reluctant | | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report srinagar, Feb 13: With speculations rife over the new government formation in near future, sources divulge that Mehbooba continues to remain reluctant to assume office as the 13th chief minister of the state. Sources privy to this development told Early Times that the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti is exhibiting least interest in getting elevation to the top post of the state, opining that more is yet to be done to reconcile with the alliance partner BJP in Jammu and Kashmir. According to her, there has been no response from the union government over her demands of JK Specific CBMs and return of the power projects. BJP in the recent past has been categorical in saying that no new additions will be made in the draft of the agenda of alliance and thatthe earlier pact will remain intact. What is getting difficult for the PDP chief is the opposition of some PDP leaders within the party over going for the re-elections. They are of the opinion that the party would face drubbing of polls are held in near future. As per sources, the ministers who were accorded various vital portfolios in Mufti's cabinet want more pro-people measures to be taken with PDP joining BJP again in the state. Sources divulged that there are several leaders in the PDP who don't support Mehbooba in going for the re-elections and they substantiate their respective opinions on the basis of the ground situation in the state. Furthermore, the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti if assumes office of the Chief Minister in near future, there would be several factors that would decide her fate. On one hand, sources said, she doesn't want to align with the BJP again while as on the other hand she has to take on board the views of the other party members. "If she doesn't listen to one section of the party, it would create difficulties for her in future over keeping her party flock together," said a party leader. It was informed further that there are more chances of the state witnessing the BJP-PDP coalition once again as pedestal for the same has almost been finalised at large. The meeting between the BJP general secretary Ram Madhav and PDP present Mehbooba Mufti wouldn't decide much as it would be more a symbolic one. "There were negotiations going on within the parties for a month. The consensus has been evolved and there is a possibility of the new government assuming office after February 20." The state witnessed imposition of governor's rule after the demise of the chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on January 7 at AIIMS New Delhi. With Mehbooba setting conditions before the BJP ahead of entering into the alliance again, a deadlock was witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir. |
