Many Doctors, Engineers, Police officers possess dubious degrees | Why subject only ReTs to shame? | | Abodh Sharma Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 13: Controversy over screening test of the ReTs was set to rest by the State High Court the previous day after it ruled that only those ReTs who possessed dubious degrees shall be subjected to the screening test. Screening of the ReTs was ordered by the government after it came to light that many of them had secured degrees from unrecognized and dubious universities. Many of them though carried degrees, were unable to write simple sentences and solve fundamental mathematical problems of primary level. However, while the ReTs had knocked the doors of the court alleging discrimination by the government, it is a pity that many in state government service occupying high positions reportedly had fake degrees. Sources in the administration divulge that a thorough inquiry would reveal that many engineers, doctors and even officers of police and civil administration possessed fake degrees from dubious universities and had attained high positions on the basis of those. The issue of fake degrees of tens of engineers in government service presently has been brought to fore several times by the fraternity itself, but there has never been an attempt to get a fair inquiry conducted into the allegations. Similarly, the issue of degree in hospital administration held by several doctors of the state has been challenged by their own colleagues, but those alleged to have secured fake degrees have been occupying high chairs. Strangely, the administration has always tried to sweep the issue under the carpet rather than to bring out the truth. Meanwhile, highly placed sources in the administration divulge that quite a few police officers also have secured degrees from dubious universities and are enjoying plum postings. "Why should only the ReTs, who are marginal employees be subjected to insult when many others have achieved high positions on similar dubious degrees?" questioned an ReT. "Government should order a comprehensive inquiry to verify the degrees of all employees to bring out the truth" he reiterated. |
