Early Times Report RAMBAN, Apr 2: In order to ensure extensive enforcement of environmental regulations in the district, State Pollution Control Board (PCB) conducted a surprise checking of markets at Banihal town and seized 35 Kgs of banned polythene, here today. The checking squad led by PCB Divisional officer Ramban, Kuldeep Bhan along with an enforcement team comprising Naib Tehsildar, Abdul Salam, Inspector, Bahar Ahmed Giri, Supervisor Municipal Committee Najamudin and ASI, Banihal Gh Mohd Wani, accompanied by other officials carried out extensive searches in the market. The seizure of polythene bags was made under The Jammu and Kashmir State Non-Biodegradable Material (Management, Handling and Disposal) Rules, 2009. During the drive, Bhan explained to the shopkeepers and local people about the hazardous impact of polythene in damaging the environment. He also added that similar seizure drives shall be carried out in future for bringing down the illegal sale of polythene to zero. He asked the public to desist from such practices and provide their cooperation in declaring these ecologically fragile areas as polythene free zones.
