JAMMU, Apr 2: Notwithstanding the government claims that J&K hospitals offer best healthcare facilities to people, the practice of referring patients to outsides hospitals continues unabated. "The rural hospitals in the state lack basic amenities and face the dearth of doctors and para-medicos as a result of which patients throng GMCH, Jammu, and SKIMS, Srinagar," official sources said. Patients with serious ailments were being referred to outside hospitals like PGI in Chandigarh, CMC in Ludhinia and AIIMS and Ganga Ram hospital in New Delhi. While J&K has got No 1 State Award in health sector, patients were being referred to outside hospitals for advanced treatment. "This is a mockery of the award," some people, who spoke this correspondent, said. Even J&K ministers preferred to go to outside hospitals for their treatment or the treatment of their family members, which "means they don't want to depend on the state doctors", they added. "Even the super-specialty hospital at Resham Ghar here sans equipments needed for the treatment of serious ailments" said a doctor. |
