Much awaited four lane works at Banihal-Ramban sector of NH1A starts

Banihal, Apr 2: Finally the much awaited construction work on Banihal - Ramban sector of four lane was undertaken by the executing agencies which would provide a respite to all locals and the visitors as well who opt this highway to reach to valley. Pertinent to mention the main link between Jammu and valley often witnesses blockades due to frequent landslides during rainy season thus affecting the life along the said national highway
The most difficult stretch and accidental prone area of highway, Banihal -Ramban sector of highway is a very difficult and tough stretch of the highway and the four laning and proposed tunnels might make the highway all weather road.
According to sources in past national highway Authority of India (NHAI) has invited tenders for this stretch for many times but the estimated cost for the construction have failed to attract the construction companies and thus they show less interest for the tendering in this stretch of the project.
"Now when the tenders have been floated with new revised rates by the nodal agency NHAI the Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) has got the tender of this 33 km long Banihal Ramban stretch, sources said and added that it has formally started the construction work on it. "The stretch comprising six small tunnels and open excavation had now become the easy road for the commuters and the tragic accidents can also be stopped in this accidental prone area of highway, sources added.
The construction agency has impressed its men and machinery for the timely completion of work on this treacherous stretch.
Pertinent to mention that the construction company was allotted the construction work for four laning from Kharpora Banihal upto Ramban town while the work for Ramban to Udhumpur stretch is allotted to Gaymen Indian Ltd.
The projects not only seen for better connectivity but also for improvement of socio economic conditions of the poor people who often get some skilled and unskilled jobs during the construction projects. People of area are hoping that after the completion of this stretch there is less chance of such hazardous accidents in the area and there would no fatal loss precious human lives in the area.
