LMD realizes Rs 51000 as fine, serve notices to publishers | Cracks down on book sellers: | |

Jammu, Apr 30: Continuing with their efforts to give relief to parents of school going children who are being fleeced by restrictive & unethical trade practices adopted by book sellers in nexus with school authorities, officers of Legal Metrology Department (LMD) today to put a curb on unfair selling of school books & uniforms to students have served notices to some publishers and also imposed fine to defaulters. According to Manoj Prabhakar Dy Controller Legal Metrilogy enforcement, regular checkings have been conducted to keep close watch on such restrictive practices. Book sellers have been warned not to restrict parents to buy any irrational item without their will. "Schools have been approached not to allow book sellers to use any un warranted publication which force the parents to lose their hard earned money, he added. "7 book sellers were booked for indulging in unfair trade practices , out of which 5 cases were compounded with the assurance to rectify the errors , Rs 51000 fine was imposed & recovered, LMD Official said, adding, "two publishers were send notice to show cause why legal Proceedings may not be initiated against them for omission ."Number of drives & notices have been issued to ascertain the real facts & steps needed to streamline the selling of only prescribed NCERT books with no Extra burden of stationary items & to stop the unwanted reading material to the students. |
