Congress turns nationalist, attacks BJP's nationalism | What an irony! | | Early Times Report jammu, Apr 30: What an irony! A party which only till the other day was known more for its pro-minority and pro-Kashmir views has suddenly turned ultra nationalist and started exposing the BJP's brand of nationalism. The case in point is the Congress party and the most important point is that it is taking up the cause of the non-local students of the National Institute of Technology Srinagar inside the parliament and outside it to expose the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's brand of nationalism. Just three days ago, the Congress had lambasted the BJP, the RSS and the Modi Government in the Lok Sabha, attacked the J&K Police and fought for and on behalf of the non-local students, who quit Srinagar on and after April 11 for their safety. The cornered BJP Home Minister instead of sharing the pain of the non-local students had withheld the truth that the CRPF jawans, who were deployed at the campus to ensure the security of the non-local students following brutal attack on them by anti-nationals and certain J&K policemen, had already been withdrawn and the J&K Government-appointed one-man magisterial inquiry committee had indicted the non-local students. He also didn't inform the Lok Sabha that FIRs had been filed against 50 non-local NIT students. And on Friday, the Congress did the same in the Rajya Sabha and charged the Modi Government and the BJP with not allowing the non-local students to hoist the national flag and raise Bharat Ki Jai slogan within the premises of the NIT Srinagar. A Congress member in Rajya Sabha raised the issue of police lathi-charge at NIT in Srinagar and accused the ruling BJP of not allowing the students to hoist the national flag there. It was none other than Pramod Tiwari. During the Zero Hour, he said "ever since BJP government came to power at the Centre, organizations related to it were trying to create unrest in educational institutions, be it Hyderbad University, JNU or NIT Srinagar" and rightly accused the BJP of "adopting double standards regarding national flag. He said the BJP's policy regarding the national flag in Kashmir was different from the rest of the country" and added that the "students of the NIT wanted to hoist the national flag at their campus, but they were beaten up". "These NIT students were now protesting in Delhi. They (students) are only demanding that they be allowed to hoist the national flag and BJP government is not letting them hoist the tri-colour…They are not permitting this," Tiwari further said while criticizing BJP and organizations related to it. The Modi Government was as clueless in the Rajya Sabha as it was in the Lok Sabha when the Congress took up the cause of the non-local students. What has happened to the BJP? What has gone wrong with it? Why has it abandoned its ideology? Who is controlling and guiding the RSS and the BJP? Who is advising the BJP to adopt hostile attitude towards the nationalists? The BJP leadership has to answer these questions so that the people get to know what has persuaded the BJP-RSS to punish the nationalists. |
