Why not a nodal officer for non-local students in NIT? | Discrimination of worst form | | ET Report jammu, Apr 30: The fake nationalist and minority-appeaser BJP, which is also being described by secular parties as "Bharat Jalao Party", has once again established that it has no place in its scheme of things for those non-local students of the NIT Srinagar, who, according to BJP national general secretary and former RSS ideologue Ram Madhav, played politics in the NIT Srinagar by waving the national tri-colour and raising Bharat Mata Ki Jai slogan and suffered torture for their act of nationalism. Ram Madhav had on April 17 shamelessly exposed his anti-Bharat Mata and anti-national flag credentials, saying they had gone to Srinagar to pursue academic career and not play politics. The obstinate and vindictive Ram Madhav had not uttered a word against the J&K Police, which at the behest of the HRD Ministry-controlled administration, unleashed a reign of senseless brutalities on the non-local students to teach them a lesson and warn that they would be thrashed again in case they committed any act of nationalism in Kashmir, as if Kashmir was not a part of India. As far the local BJP leadership and BJP minister, less said the better. Suffice to say that they have gone totally perverted, insensitive and intolerant towards the non-local students. That the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre has abandoned the non-local students of the NIT Srinagar or thrown their lot with the fanatics in the Valley and that they are concerned only with those Kashmiri students who raise ant-India slogans and vitiate the academic atmosphere in the educational institutions outside the state could be seen from the direction of the Union Home Ministry that required the state governments to appoint nodal officers to take care of Kashmiri Muslim students studing outside the state - a direction that was endorsed the other day states and UTs like Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Chandigarh, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sikkim, Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli. There are reasons to believe that like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Maharashtra and Karnataka, where sizeable number of Kashmiri students study in different institutes, which have not responded to the Union Home Ministry's request for appointing a special police nodal officer, may follow the suit in the coming days under pressure from the Modi Government. The Union Home Ministry directed the state governments to appoint nodal officers following the reports of alleged attacks on and misbehaviour with Kashmiri students studying in different states. "Appointment of nodal officer for Kashmiri students will give a sense of security and comfort to them," a Home Ministry official had said. The need of the time was to appoint a nodal officer at the NIT Srinagar to take care of the non-local students of the NIT Srinagar considering their miserable plight and the brutalities they were subjected to by the anti-nationals after April 1. The need of the time was to assuage their hurt feelings by taking action against the erring NIT officials and erring police men. The need of the time was to rid the NIT of all the anti-nationals. But the Union Home Ministry and the Human Resource Development Ministry acted otherwise and left the non-local students of the NIT Srinagar to fend for themselves. There us still time for the Modi government to reassure the brutalized and expelled non-local students by taking action against the culprits and providing foolproof security to them. Not to so would be only to further annoy the nation. |
