Srinagar, Apr 30: In much talked expired surgical equipment and consumables scam of SKIMS, Srinagar, Authorities attached Chief Pharmacist to hush up the matter and save skin of influential officials involved in the swindle. Nearly one month after a scam of sale of Surgical equipment and consumables surfaced at Premier Health institute of Kashmir,SKIMS, authorities facing heat from public circles as per Highly placed sources today attached Chief Pharmacist of SKIMS to hush up the matter. Official sources told Early Times that Chief Pharmacist was made a scapegoat in the matter to save skin of influential officials involved in the swindle worth lakhs of Rupees. They said that none among the officials' responsible purchasing equipments and consumables for the institute and Doctors and Paramedical staff involved in sale and use of expired equipments and consumables were even touched in the probe ordered by authorities at SKIMS. "Expired surgical equipments worth lakhs of Rupees was picked up from store rooms and operation theatres during the intervening night of 29 and 30 April, 2016 after facing tremendous pressure from common masses and to hush up the matter." sources said that There is every probability according to official sources that concerned officials may make errors in official records to equalize sale and use of surgical equipments and Consumables for the institute to evade all sorts of inquiries against them. Pertinently massive scam of sale and use of expired surgical equipments and consumables by Doctors and paramedical staff at SKIMS surfaced recently and received wide spread criticism for authorities at the helm of affairs in media and on social Networking sites.To fetch money from poor patients visiting SKIMS for treatment, Sources said that one particular corrupt team of Doctors and Paramedical staff of the institute in nexus with each other would re-sterilize, re-label expired stocks and then put on sale at the drug counters for patients. After receiving criticism, authorities at SKIMS in last week framed a two member team to 'probe' the matter and as part of action today according to sources attached head of Pharmacist department till further orders. The issue came to fore after a patient post operation developed complications and one Senior Doctor of the institute in his inquiry at personal level established that reason of death was use of expired surgical equipments by his subordinates in operation theatre. It did not stop here as immediately after the scam had surfaced, the officials at the helm of affairs according to sources weaved a burglary theory in the institute's drug Store to destroy the records and bury proofs. Doctors wishing anonymity of their names said that surgical equipments and consumables like vericeal-band Endoscopy Band, Platelet Theresis Set, and Prolene Mesh are being sold beyond their expiry date to innocent patients to fetch money from them without having care and concern for their health. When contacted Minister for Health and Medical education, Bhali Bhagat said that he will personally follow the case now onwards and will take strict action against all the people involved in this heinous crime.. |
