Jammu, May 1: Shoddy police investigation has led to the acquittal of a Hizbul Mujahideen commander and his two associates by the court of principal district and sessions judge, Kishtwar. HM commander Firdous Ahmad Mattoo alias Prince of Drabshalla, Kishtwar, had surrendered before police at Shrigupara, Srinagar, on September 3, 2010. On Saturday last, Mattoo along with his two associates Mohammad Yaseen and Zakir Hussain was released by the court due to lack of evidence against them and shoddy police investigation. Though Mattoo was released by police late in the evening after he filled a personal security bonds of Rs 5 lakh, he was taken into custody by CID (CI) in the morning and shifted to Jammu. He was involved in case FIR No 147/2002 registered at Kishtwar police station under section 364/342 of RPC, FIR No 3/2009 registered at Marwah police station under section 307 of RPC and 7/27 of arms act, FIR No 5/2010 registered under sections 302 and 34 of RPC at Marwah police station, FIR No 12/2010 registered at Marwah police station under sections 302 and 330 of RPC, FIR No 13/2010 registered at Marwah police station under sections 302 and 364 of RPC and FIR No 99/2010 registered at Kishtwar police station under sections 380 and 457 of RPC. He remained active for several years before his surrender took place in Srinagar. He was mostly active in Palmar, Dachhan and Marwah areas of Kishtwar. He had surrendered due to the efforts of a Kishtwar politician. As per police records, he was involved in many heinous crimes including killings, extortion of money, recruiting youth into militancy and waging war against the nation. His name had also allegedly figured in the Kishtwar bank robbery wherein burglers had decamped with cash of Rs 1.06 cr. He has, however, already got a clean chit in this case.
