GMCH authorities sweeping issue below carpet | Cases of reaction due to IV fluid | | Nitesh Sangral
Early Times Report
Jammu, May 1: Despite panic caused by the increasing cases of reaction to patients while administrating IV fluid, the administration of the GMC hospital is trying to sweep the matter under the carpet and many believe that several meetings in this regard were mere eye wash. Sources at GMC&H Jammu told Early Times that within 10 days atleast three times the fluid, which is procured by Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation (JKMSC) Ltd., had reacted to the patients admitted in the different wards causing panic. "The matter has been brought to the notice of hospital administration as well as officers of Health and Medical Education Department but except some meetings, nothing has been done in this regard" said a doctor of the GMCH pleading anonymity. "Similarly, a committee was constituted to investigate the cause of reactions but even before it could report its findings, two more such cases were reported in the said hospital, "sources stated adding that the hospital administration called number of meeting with staff as well as some Head of Department (HoD)s to discuss the issue, but these meetings failed to reach any conclusion. Earlier, supply of DNS batch no 16JK13P004 and NS batch no JK02/P004 was stopped and stocks lifted from the store by Drug and Food Organisation Jammu. Sources further added that the administration has procured fluid without its test report from concerned authority. "It seems the laid protocol for procurement has not been followed, endangering lives of the patients" said a doctor. The principal and medical superintendent of the GMC&H Jammu didn't respond to repeated calls for their comment. |
