rajouri, May 1: A police cook lost his life late last night after he fell into a pit dug by the road construction company (RCC) of GREF for the construction of a culvert on Sunderbani-Bajabai road of the district. Police sources identified the dead as Manjeet Soor of Ambkhori, Sunderbani. He left Sunderbani police station on his motorcycle after completing his routine work at bout 11 pm on Saturday. While going home at Ambkhori, his mobike fell into a deep pit, resulting in his instant death, sources said.
Though the work was in progress for the past some time, GREF had not put any board in this regard near the pit for the information of general public, locals alleged, saying had GREF put such a board there, the incident could have been averted. The incident was brought to the notice of police by some passersby. Cops soon reached the spot and evacuated the body to the hospital where post-mortem was conducted on it today. Later, it was handed over to his family members for last rites.
