Non-filling of posts of CIC, IC in SIC | HC directs petitioners to make proper application | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 2: A high court division bench of Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Justice B S Walia today directed petitioners's counsels to file a proper application with regard to the issue of non-filling up of vacancies of Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) and Information Commissioner (IC) in State Information Commission (SIC). When the PIL came up for hearing, the petitioner's counsels submitted that SIC, transparency watchdog of the government, had become defunct with the completion of term of CIC G R Sufi and IC, Dr S K Sharma and only one IC Nazir Ahmed was presently discharging his duties. After hearing them, the bench observed that the petitioners could file a proper application with regard to the issue projected in the court. It is worthwhile to mention herein that a high court division bench headed by Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar had impleaded 13 administrative secretaries of the state as respondents in the PIL for their lackadaisical approach in finalising 147 departmental inquiries and had directed them to file their status reports indicating the progress in the matters. After a counsel prayed for some more time to file response to the status reports, the bench extended the time by one week and directed the listing of the matter in the week commencing May 16, 2016.
