NEET: BJP joins hands with anti-Jammu forces in Kashmir to harm Jammu youth | | | Early Times Report jammu, May 2: The anti-Jammu forces in the Valley have joined hands to deprive the brilliant Jammu youth of their legitimate share in the professional colleges, including medical and dental colleges, and to see to it that the biased Competent Authority in J&K continued to hold test for medical aspirants. They have opposed the Supreme Court's noble direction that there will be one test across the country, including J&K, for all the candidates seeking admission to professional colleges. The PDP Education Minister, Nayeem Akhtar; the NC leader, Ali Mohammad Sagar, former Vice-Chancellor of Islamic University, Kashmir, Siddiq Wahid; Sheikh Showkat, Head, Department of Legal Studies, Central University of Kashmir; and a well-known supporter of Kashmiri separatists Javid Iqbal have all opposed the Supreme Court ruling that batted for National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) and rejected the BJP-led NDA Government's plea against the direction. So much so, the J&K Government has decided to approach the Supreme Court to get its direction reviewed so that the anti-Jammu Competent Authority continued to conduct examination of candidates desirous of seeking admission to the professional colleges located both in Kashmir and Jammu. The announcement to this effect was made by the Education Minister, Nayeem Akhtar, who is also the spokesperson of the J&K Government. Their argument is that J&K enjoys special status under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution and no central law is automatically applicable to the state. As was expected, the so-called nationalist BJP, which before October 2014 used to fight against the state's special status, as also for the rights of the people of Jammu region, has joined hands with the PDP. Had the BJP ministers batted for the NEET or had they taken into consideration the plight of the Jammu youth or their share in the state's professional colleges, especially medical and dental colleges, the BJP would have opposed the government move. Since it has not opposed the official move, it can be presumed that the BJP and the PDP are on the same side as far as their attitude towards the Supreme Court's ruling is concerned. The support of the BJP to the official move has not surprised anyone in Jammu. The people of Jammu province know that the BJP is not their representative and it is the B-team of the Kashmir's ruling elite like the Congress. The BJP has done what it was expected to do. Similarly, the indifferent attitude of other political parties, especially the Congress party, which has its support-base basically limited to Jammu province, has not surprised anyone in Jammu province. The reason is that all the major political players in the state are patently Kashmir-centric and fundamentally anti-Jammu. However, what has surprised is the silence of the Panthers Party, which holds dharna on a daily basis over one issue or another. Now that the BJP, the PDP, the NC, separatists and perverted Kashmiri academics have conspired against the Jammu youth, it is time for the public-spirited persons in Jammu and social groups to come forward to give their unflinching support to the Supreme Court ruling. It will be in their interests and in the interest of the Jammu youth, who never got their due share in the J&K-based medical and dental colleges. They should also demand implementation of the 1999 Singhal Committee Report that had said that all the seats in the Jammu-based professional colleges will be the sole preserve of the Jammu youth and all the seats in the profession colleges based in Kashmir will be the sole preserve of the Valley youth. |
