Early Times Report

Rajouri, May 2: As the heat wave continues in the whole India, a massive fire has reportedly been broken out in various parts of Rajouri district especially near the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowshera and Sunderbani & Rajouri tehsils.
At most of the places the fire damaged the dry grass and undergrowth vegetation, but no loss to pine or other trees in the areas. "Reason behind the fire could be negligence on parts of the locals or soaring temperature. Fire tenders, forest staff and police personnel rushed to the spot and controlled the fire from spreading to nearby human habitation, sources said.
A senior police officer said that the fire broke out under mysterious circumstances this morning in a forest of Bathuni area and the matter is under investigation.
Meanwhile reports added that the fire was also reported from border belts between fence & Line of Control (LoC) in Nowshera sector including Babakhori area. It was also reported from village Sair in compartment No 62.
"As the fire broke out from near the bridal path leading to the border village, the reason could be burning cigarette or Biri. The fire engulfed about 7 kanals of forest land in the area and timely action by the locals, forest guards and personnel from Forest Protection Force averted more damage to life or trees," said Arshdeep Singh, DFO , Forest.
Mr Singh added further investigation into the matter is under investigation however, the soaring temperature has further helped the spread of fire in border belt from Akhnoor to Poonch district and in the border areas. Meanwhile army personnel have been keeping a close watch of the fire incidents being reported from border belts.
"The fire broke out between fence & LoC could be attributed to tracer bombs fired by Pakistan army and the dry grass that caught fire in Jhangar border belt was in the grazing ground maintained and protected by the forest department' said Arshdeep Singh, DFO, Nowshera.
Anup Kumar Soni, DFO, Rajouri said that the fire broke out in compartment No 69 in Kotli forest block in Manjakot tehsil and in compartment No 39 in Bathooni area has been controlled by the department officials and Forest Protection Force personnel. "No loss to trees or life has been reported from both the areas, he added
.However, dry grass and under growth vegetation has been damaged in both these areas," DFO said. He added after3 pm today no forest fire incident has been reported under the jurisdiction of Rajouri forest division.
Meantime Inspector of the Forest Protection Force, Jameel Ahmad, said since the forest is right beside a road and it is easy for people to cause a fire unintentionally. Rising temperatures and prolonged dry spells are making forests more vulnerable to fire incidents especially in northern India these days.
