Locals block damaged Srinagar-Chadoora road | | | Early Times Report
Budgam, May 2: The residents of Kralpora ,Gopalpora and Wathoora blocked Srinagar Chadoora road for many hours on Monday as the locals allege that authorities are paying no attention towards undertaking necessary repairs of the road. Details available with Early Times reveal that residents of almost three important localities assembled on busy Srinagar Chadoora road on Monday morning and protested against the authorities particularly R&B and Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) for not undertaking blacktopping of the road which has been damaged severely at least on one dozen places from Srinagar to Chadoora which is 15 KM long stretch. The blocakde of road stranded as many as 500 vehicles for 3 hours. It was only after personal intervention of SSP Budgam Fayaz Ahmad Lone that traffic was restored. SSP assured that he would take up the matter with authorities . "The road was earlier repaired / blacktopped in 2008 by ERA and since then authoritiake have not at all undertaken any repairs. The area is being represented by Javaid Mustafa Mir who is MLA Chadoora and ex Revenue Minister. The Agriculture production Minister G N Lone Hanjura also hails from same area and in past Finance Minister has also represented this area, but nobody is bothered to come to rescue of people" said Mohammad YousufWaza a resident of Wathoora Chadoora. At Gopalpora, Wathoora and Kralpora the road has huge potholes and most of the vehicles of Chadoora area have been damaged due to it. We appeal Chief Minister to intervene personally said a local resident Bashir Ahmad. Many social and political leaders from Chadoora and Charar-e-Sharief which includes Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat, Shahnawaz Sultan, Nazir Ahmad Yatoo of PDP, Ali Mohammad Dar of NC have also urged upon Government particularly the R&B Minister to undertake repairs of the road without any delay. Locals allege that ERA damaged the road last year after it laid a huge pipeline from Kralpora to NowharChadoora. The road was dug by huge JCB's and till date they haven't bothered to repair the road. Pertinent to mention that bridge on Doodh Ganga nallah in Chadoora which got damaged during September 2014 floods , is also yet to be repaired. The authorities have failed to undertake repairs on the bridge which is causing severe problems to the residents of around two dozen villages of Chadoora. The residents of Chadoora (Budgam) and its adjoining areas are undergoing tough times as the repair work on the main bridge connecting Chadoora with Charar-i-Sharief town in central Kashmir's Budgam district is yet to start. Chadoora bridge was reconstructed only a few years by PWD (R&B) authorities which happens to be a key link between Srinagar and several areas of Budgam district. Locals also allege that sub-standard material was used in the construction work which lead to severe damage to the bridge. Another group of people allege that illegal shopping complexes constructed on the river banks chocked the Doodh Ganga nallah which caused huge water pressure during 2014 floods and that ultimately damaged one of the pillars of this bridge. |
