Landslide hits Shashoo village, 19 families shifted to safer places | | | Asif Iqbal Naik

Jammu, May 2: At least 19 Gujjar families of village Shashoo in Padder Sub Division of Kishtwar District have fled their homes and forced to take shelter at safer places after massive landslide from the nearby hillocks struck the village. The landslide, reports said destroyed three houses fully. Some other structures were partially damaged. Reports said the landslide hit the village on 28th of April 2016 in Shashoo village of Padder some 50 KM from District headquarter and immediately the people brought the matter into the notice of Sub Divisional Magistrate Padder who visited the affected village and took the stock of the situation. After making on spot assignment of the effected village, SDM Chatroo Sanjeev Ghoswami brought the matter into the notice of District administration Kishtwar and sought immediate help from the administration for the effected families which include immediate supply of 17 tents so that the affected families could provide shelter at safer places. The victims informed the "Early Times" that administration neither provide them any help nor provided them the tents added that more than 70 family members including children and women's are spending sleepless nights in nearby areas under natural caves. Meanwhile a deputation of affected families under the chairmanship of District Secretary National Conference Kishtwar Shabir Ahmed Kamal today called on Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar and apprised him about the problems faced by the affected families. While talking to "Early Times" Shabir Ahmed Kamal said that there is immediate need to provide the shelter to the affected families beside said that there is need to send geology and mining department team to make the assignment of the area. He said that the matter was vigorously raised before the Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar added that DC Kishtwar assured them that all possible help will be provide to the affected families. When contacted DC KIshtwar Ghulam Nabi Balwan said that the matter is being looked into added that whatever possible help administration could do will be provided to them. He said that the matter has also been brought into the notice of Geology and mining department so that proper assessment of the area could be done for taking effective measures. Among the prominent who are part of the deputation which meet DC Kishtwar include Ghulam Abbas Munshi, Wali Mohammad Giri, Farooq Ahmed Dev, Sajjad Ahmed Khan, Sarpanch Nazir Ahmed and others. |
