Water crisis: Sunderbani under grip of water scarcity | | | Early Times Report
Sunderbani, May 19: With temperature rising every passing day, the residents of the area here in Sunderbani and its adjoining area are grappling with acute shortage of water. Acute water shortage is reported in Tehsil Sunderbani especially in Panchayats including Nallah, Makhol, Devak and Hathal where people are forced to travel atleast 10-15 kilometres to get potable water that too from natural resources. Locals of these Panchayat areas informed that the problem is there for the last 3-4 months. "They (villagers) have visited and complained this about AEE Nowshera and other officers concerned but all is in vain," a local lamented. They said the problems got aggravated after Daily Wagers engaged with the Public Health Engineering Department went on strike further compounding the water crisis in the area. "Even our demand to the PHE department to send a water tanker that too once a week was not honoured," alleged Sohan Lal another villager. Local said that the locals today have managed a provate water tanker by contributing the payments at their own. Meantime Sarpanches of these Panchayats-Tirath Ram, Om Prakash and Ram Singh in a meeting today served an ultimatum of week's time to the PHE authorities to regulate the water supply to their villages else they will block the ever busy Jammu-Poonch Highway and start hunger strike also in support of their demand. |
