SHO raped me even after I touched his feet to spare me, alleges victim | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 19 : Even as Khour police station SHO has been arrested and suspended for allegedly raping a newly married girl at his official residence with the help of a woman SPO, the victim Thursday threatened to end her life if the accused was not handed severe punishment. Talking to media persons here today, she called upon the investigating agency to expedite further investigation, if any, in the case and alleged that the accused police officer was enjoying VIP treatment in police custody. She wept inconsolably while narrating her story. She said after she solemnised court marriage against the wishes of her family, her father registered a complaint against her husband as a result of which she was asked by police to report at Khour police station. She said it was on October 29 when she along with her husband went to the police station where she told the officer on duty that both of us were mature and had performed court marriage. "Despite that I was lodged in one cell and my husband in the other," she alleged. "After some time SPO Mamta Kumari came to me and directed me to visit the official residence of the SHO to get lecture on how to appear before the judge in the morning. As she was tired due a day-long journey, I requested her to cancel the meeting. On October 30 morning, Mamta again came to me and asked me to accompany her to the SHO's room. After reaching the SHO's room, she pushed me inside and bolted the door from outside. The SHO slapped me and switched off the lights, telling me to cooperate or else he would punish my husband and slap serious charges against him. I pleaded before him and even touched his feet to spare both of him as they were recently married, but he did not listen to me and raped me. He threatened me of dire consequences in case I discussed her rape with anyone," she alleged. She asked senior police officers where women should go to seek justice in a set up where women were being harassed and abused inside police stations.
