Power, water supplies fail in GMCH; patient care in jeopardy | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 19: Unscheduled power cuts across Jammu have not spared the government medical college hospital and patients have been facing untold miseries in wards and even operation theaters, where functioning has been abandoned due to frequent power failures. Officials Sources at GMC told Early Times that patients and doctors at Orthopedics Department of GMC&H suffered huge hardships due to absence of water facilities and power cuts in the ward throughout the day and surgeries had to be postponed due to unavailability of power and even water. "There is no water supply in the bathrooms of some wards and it has resulted into insanitation and stink. It seems the administration of the hospital is least bothered to address the issues", they alleged and adding that it is not first incident in the hospital, there are numbers of cases when patients and doctors have to face these types of difficulties. "You can imagine, if doctors of this hospital failed to get these facilities in the hospital then what about the patients. We have approached the authorities concerned number of times since morning and we were asked that problem will be addressed within hours but nothing has been done till evening," attendant of patient said. Medical Superintendent Dr Ravinder Rattan Pal and Principal Dr zahid Gillani didn't respond to repeated calls for their comment.
