Kishtwar, May 19: Of the 123 Kanal of land acquired for the Degree College Kishtwar several years ago, about 33 kanal of land has so for been encroached by the people living in college vicinity, but the authorities have turned a blind eye to the blatant act.
As per the details available with "Early Times" the fresh attempt to grab college land was reported couple of days ago when encroachers tried their hand on approximately 08 Marlas of college land kept reserved for construction of college guest house.
However, stiff resistance from college principal foiled the attempt.
The sources informed the "Early Times" that the person who tried to encroach the said piece of college land enjoys political backing from a powerful local politician who is supporting him despite knowing that the said piece of land belongs to College.
As per the sources, in papers Kishtwar Degree College had approximately 123 kanal of land which was acquired by the Higher Education Department for establishing various blocks for running different streams, but with the passage of time, the encroachers encroached about 33 kanals of land and presently the college authorities were in possession of only 90 Kanal of land.
The sources said that due to casual approach of college authorities and involvement of some revenue employees who promoted encroachment of college land, the college authorities without retrieving the encroached land from the encroachers fenced the college building which includes providing of passage for motor able road (24 feet) to the people living in and around college premises. The sources further informed that the 8 marlas of college land which was also left outside the fence is now being eyed by the encroachers to stake its claim on the said piece of the land.
Meanwhile the people urged up on the government and the administration to get the college land measured and retrieved all the land encroached by the people from time to time without considering their political affiliation added that Kishtwar college is an institution where children's without considering the caste, color or creed are getting education which need to be protected at any cost.
Kishtwar Degree College which was established at Kishtwar after losing three precious lives during an agitation in 70's launched by the people of Kishtwar District is presently facing official apathy in terms of non availability of infrastructure, facilities to the students, shortage of staff and paucity of funds for the overall development of the college. |
