| Water crisis in Poonch , People migrate from upper reaches | | |

Jammu, May 21: Notwithstanding the tall claims of Government that basic amenities like drinking water will be providing to far flung areas of the state , the people from higher reaches have started migration to low lying areas to fetch drinking water in district Poonch, the sources said here today.
Peeople from upper reaches have started moving towards lowlying areas here in search of water as they have been facing shortage of water in far flung areas, the sources said , adding they have been camping near the banks of ponds and rivers to get away with the need of water .
Sources said in the district several pumps were out of order but the PHE department being in deep sumber has failed to make them functional . Many water supply schemes were not functioning in the district while as in some areas supply pipes were in leaking state and in other areas when there is shorateg of water, they added. Sourcses said that authorities were well aware of the fact that during on set of the summer season , the problem of water shortage particularly in upper reaches and kandi areas comes fore but no concrete steps were being taken deep despite crores of rupees were being spent on water supply schemes. Crores of ruppes were being spent on water supply schemes . They said , is there any body to ask them where does this public money goes? Why people are made to suffer they further added. A local from mendhar tehsil said that the height of things can be gauged from the fact that there is only one over head tank OHT for nearly 2 lakh souls to cater the need of water.
