Education Deptt issues 2 orders to 'fight' scorching heat | | | Sumit Sharma

Jammu, May 21: Two orders issued by the Education department one rescheduling the school timing and another ordering closure of the schools in Jammu region due to the scorching heat created confusion in Kathua District. People from Kathua district were sent into tizzy on Saturday after the order stating that schools in the Jammu division stand closed due to scorching heat was published in local dallies. The order issued by the Education Department stated that schools including private schools in summer zone of Jammu division would remain closed from May 21 to May 28. Prior to this order the Chief Education Officer Balbir Singh had issued another order rescheduling the school timing in Kathua district in view of scorching heat and it also got published. An order to this effect was issued by CEO Kathua, Balbir Singh on the directives of District Development Commissioner Kathua, Ramesh Kumar. As per the order the schools up to middle standard would function from 8 am to 1 pm from May 23 till the start of Summer vacations. Besides, the Morning Assembly schedule will be for 15 minutes instead of 45 minutes during this period. The order further read that it would also apply up to 8th standard in High Schools and Higher Secondary Schools of the district. Meanwhile, the CEO Kathua Balbir Singh when contacted over the issue said that he had issued the order to give respite to the children from scorching heat without knowing that Secretary Education had also issued the order in this connection. " Naturally Govt's order is supreme and it has to be abided in letter and spirit", the CEO said. |
