Gurdwara committee refutes R&B CE's representation claim | Kathi-Darwaza drain issue | | Javaid Naikoo
Srinagar, May 21: Kathi-Darwaza Gurdwara Committee has refuted R&B chief engineer's claims that it had sent to him any representation for reconstruction of drain. The CE had two days ago claimed that his department had received a representation from Kathi-Darwaza Gurdwara Committee for reconstruction of the drain to safeguard a wall of Gurudwara. The committee president Gurdeep Singh today said no such representation had been sent to the CE by them. "Neither anybody from R&B department has approached us nor we have written any application to them. I have confirmed it from my team," he claimed. CE Satish Razdan, who had set a deadline of two days to probe the matter, said the probe got delayed as he had been out of state. It would now be completed by Monday, he added. On May 19 last, Razdan said that his department had received a representation from the gurdwara committee to reconstruct the drain to safeguard wall of gurdwara from roadside which was dying out due to leakage in drain. Razdan was then responding to the questions raised by locals of Kathi-Darwaza and adjoining areas about the purpose of reconstructing drain allegedly under political influence to waste public money. Early Times had on May 20 last published a new story under the caption "R&B department gifts well laid drain to political worker for reconstruction" after getting access to video and photographs showing drain in good condition. The good conditioned surface drain from Kathi-Darwaza to main road was dismantled to pacify an influential political worker of the area. As regards the claims of R&B officials that tenders were issued in a formal way to reconstruct drain, no tender details in R&B section were found on official website JKtenders.nic.in. The issue came to fore after locals of Kathi-Darwaza smelt something fishy in reconstruction of 'flawless' drain in the area to appease on influential political worker on the direction of a noted politician of city. Dr Mushtaq Khan, a local, alleged that some officials of R&B department were using all means to shield the influential contractor and gulp public money on share basis. Locals of the area said that they were surprised to see R&B department following diktats of influential people to demolish good conditioned drain to allegedly swindle money. "We will approach the state administration to seek a time bound probe in the matter to bring culprits to book," Farooq Ahmad said. |
