Sonowal's oath ceremony: PDP's absence raises eyebrows | | | Early Times Report NEW DELHI, May 26: Oath taking ceremony of first BJP's chief minister in Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal was a show of strength for NDA in the North East but PDP, which is coalition partner of BJP in J&K, was conspicuously absent from this mega event. Many eye brows being raised in corridors of power in the government about absence of any PDP representative in the swearing in ceremony because all other constituents of NDA were present in the mega function, which marked entry of NDA in the North East. BJP CMs Shivraj Singh Chouhan (Madhya Pradesh), VasundharaRaje Scindia (Rajasthan), Anandiben Patel (Gujarat), DevendraFadnavis (Maharastra), Manohar Lal Khattar (Haryana), Raman Singh (Chattisgarh), Raghubar Das (Jharkhand) and LaxmikantParsekar (Goa) attended the event. Also present were Chief Ministers of alliance parties Parkash Singh Badal (Punjab) and Chandrababu Naidu of Andhra Pradesh. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister KalikoPul and Sikkim Chief Minister PK Chamling were also present, besides former Jharkhand chief minister ArjunMunda and former Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi. But there was no representation of PDP in the ceremony despite the fact that party is running government with PDP. According to some media reports Education Minister and PDP leader Naeem Akhtar couldn't make it to Guwahati to attend oath ceremony as he missed the flight but people are not buying this excuse that Naeem had reached New Delhi from Srinagar but missed the connecting flight to Guwahati and, therefore, was unable to join the oath ceremony of Sonowal. BJP chief, Amit Shah was very particular to make this swearing ceremony a mega event so absence of PDP's representative in the function has added fuel to some rumours that despite running of government with BJP in the State, PDP is yet to join NDA officially. In a massive show of strength, PM Narendra Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah and over a dozen ministers and chief ministers were in Assam on Tuesday as Sarbananda Sonowal was sworn in as the first BJP chief minister of the state. |
