Early Times Report JAMMU, July 08: While the Amarnath yatra today crossed the one lakh mark, six pilgrims have so far died on way to the holy cave shrine of Lord Shiva in south Kashmir Himalayas. The yatra has crossed the one lakh mark in eight days for the second consecutive year. Like this year, the yatra in 2015 had also begun on July 2 and the one lakh mark was also achieved in eight days. With 16,367 pilgrims having the darshan of ice lingam on Friday, their number has reached 1,03,063 in eight days. Six pilgrims have so far lost their lives on way to the holy cave shrine. Surinder Dutt Vyas of Rajasthan died at Sheshnag due to heart attack, official sources said. 1,726 pilgrims, including 1,464 men and 262 women, left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp here for Kashmir today. Apart from them, 141 persons, including 131 sadhus, left the pilgrimage from the Parade temple. When the yatra started on July 2, the number of pilgrims was very less but it picked up in the next seven days. The arrangements for the pilgrims have been put in place by the Amarnath Shrine Board as per their requirement. Police, CRPF and army have made elaborate arrangements for the security of the pilgrims who come here from different parts of the country. 8,916 pilgrims left Jammu for the south Kashmir Himalayas on July 2, 14,871 on July 3, 16,208 on July 4, 15,923 on July 5, 15,185 on July 6 and 15,593 on July 7. |
