Amnesty to stone-pelters: Home Ministry asks JK to review cases | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 8: The Union Home Ministry has asked the state government to once again review the cases of stone-pelters who were given amensty by the state government two days back. The Home Ministry has said each case should be reviewed strictly before going ahead with it. "The government has to doubly sure that the cases who were given amnesty are genuine and the state government is convinced that there is not an iota of doubt that they will not indulge in such incidents again. Unless it will prove counter productive," said a senior office of the home ministry. The sources said the home ministry hold the view that FIR are not registered were not just for the heck of it. These were registered only when the crime was committed and cases are meant for deterrent act. "the key point is deterrent act. So unless the government is doubly assured that granting amnesty will not take away the fear of detterent effect, the amnesty will not serve any purpose but could prove counter productive," said the official. The state government has recently decided to grant amnesty to 634 stone pelters on the eve of Eid. Though the state government has also said that these were not involved in heinous crime. But even if its so much assured than it has to be doubly assured. Stone-pelting has emerged as phenomena of an attempt to challenge the Indian soverignity and it should be viewed seriously," said the official. Sources said the state government has is preparing a response to the communication of the home ministry . The state police has directed the concerned SSPs to check the facts again with the concerned SHOs and come out with the report. |
