Opposition's role for restoration of peace in Valley imperative | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 24: Though Union Home Minster has assured various measures for restoration of normalcy in Kashmir Valley which has observed a complete shutdown for last 16 days now, the restoration of normalcy in the Valley will however remain elusive without the cooperation and coordination of mainstream opposition parties in the State. According political experts, blaming the subversives and separatists for the prevailing unrest will not be enough but the mainstream political parties in the Valley have not also played any remarkable role during last 16 days of unrest for restoration of total peace and normalcy in the State. Instead of finding fault with government and its policies or raising fingers on the coalition of two parties with different political ideologies, the opposition was supposed to cooperate with the government and condemn the violence of any kind in the aftermath of killing of a dreaded terrorist on July 8,said political experts. But instead of doing that they tried to find fault with coalition and its policies without knowing that let it be any party the separatists and subversives in Valley who are working at the behest of their mentors across the border have to keep the pot boiling by exploiting the sentiments of the people on unnecessary issues, experts added. Maintaining that majority of people in Valley are not in present unrest but due to failure of mainstream political parties to challenge the separatists for thrusting bands and strikes on them, the experts said the people are afraid of a backlash from the ultras and hence left with no alternative but to accept their dictates. Had the opposition parties been so sincere they would have come openly against the separatists asking them not to misled the people of Valley and exploit their sentiments for their own interests, opine experts, adding instead they came down heavily on the government which further boosted the morale of separatists and ultras. Experts feel that not only the separatists and subversives but the political parties too have developed a vested interest in Kashmir and to outwit coalition they try to exploit the situation to their advantage. Besides, the failure of Union Government to take other nationalist forces in Valley on board other than the top leaders of some selected political parties, the desired results in defusing the crisis in Kashmir can't be achieved, feel the experts, saying that in addition to some main stream political parties there are so many small organizations having a secular, progressive and a nationalistic outlook but their services were never utilized in bringing Kashmir out of present mess right from 1990 by the successive governments. Experts said that these nationalist organization and their leaders have never been consulted or taken into confidence by the government over defusing the situation in Valley and how to win the misguided youth and isolate the separatists. Even at this time the cooperation of locals is needed in restoration of peace in Valley the government without wasting any time should reach out to such organizations and utilize their services for defusing the present crisis. Some of the leaders who are trade unionists, advocates and scholars have even expressed their willingness in rendering all cooperation to settle the vexed issue and render every kind of support and assistance to the government provided it shows sincerity in settling the issue.
