Two more including policeman succumb to injuries, Kashmir violence toll reaches 52

SRINAGAR, July 24: With two more persons including a policeman succumbing to their injuries today the death toll in Kashmir violence reached 52. At the same time the situation was normal in valley with very few untoward incidents being reported.
Reports said that Sameer Ahmad, resident of Khunmoh-Srinagar succumbed to his injuries at Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura here today. Sameer was injured during the protests in Pampore area on July 10 and since then he was battling for his life at SKIMS-Soura.
A police constable identified as Mudasir Ahmad also succumbed to his injuries here today. Mudasir was admitted at SKIMS-Soura after sustaining injuries in a grenade attack at Yaripora in South Kashmir's Kulgam district on July 15. Today he lost his battle for life. With Sameer's and Mudasir's death the death toll in Kashmir violence reached 52.
For the 16th consecutive day the authorities carried on with the curfew in South Kashmir districts of Anantnag, Pulwama and Kulgam and 10 police stations of Srinagar district. In the rest of the valley the curfew was lifted. However, section 144 remained in force across the valley so that the people do not assemble and carry out the protest demonstrations.
In the Srinagar district curfew remained in place in areas falling under police stations of Nowhatta, Khanyar, Maharaj Gunj, Safa Kadal, Rainawari, Kralkhud, Maisuma, Zadibal, Soura and Batmaloo. The curfew was lifted from the other areas of the district. Elsewhere, the curfew was lifted from Budgam, Ganderbal, Baramulla, Bandipora, Kupwara and Shopian districts.
Reports said that very few stone pelting incidents in Srinagar, Ganderbal and South Kashmir. The intensity of these protests was very less as compared to the protests carried over the past couple of weeks. Some persons sustained minor injuries during the protests with the overall situation being normal.
A police spokesman said that the situation throughout Kashmir valley remained peaceful and under control today. The spokesman said that there were no reports of any untoward incident from anywhere in the valley although some stray stone pelting incidents were reported from isolated places.
"There was no curfew in most of the towns/areas of Kashmir valley although curfew remained imposed in eight police stations of Srinagar and towns of Awantipora, Kulgam and Anantnag. Constable Mudasir Ahmad No 619/Kgm who was injured in a law and order/militancy incident at Yaripora, Kulgam on July 15 succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS today," said the police spokesman.
The spokesman said that National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) organized by CBSE was held successfully at Srinagar and administration provided all help in conduct of the test and facilitated the safe movement of the candidates from different places to Srinagar and back.
Kashmir valley has been on edge since the evening of July 8 when Hizbul Mujahideen Commander, Burhan Muzaffar Wani was killed along with his two associates in a brief encounter with police and security forces at Bemdoora-Kokernag in Anantnag district. So far 50 civilians have been killed in firing of police and CRPF at different places as people protested against the killing of Burhan.
Barring the post paid mobile phones of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) the mobile phones are not working in the Kashmir valley. Mobile internet services and the rail service continue to be suspended ever since the valley was rocked by protests.
