Jammu, July 24:The Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Welfare Association held its meeting here, today wherein the Association leaders sought full safety and security of Dalits across the country. The Association leaders drew attention of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment towards recent incidents in Gujrat where four Dalit youth were tied with SUV car in broad daylight, beaten up continuously for three hours and then dragged for kilometres to police station. Also, in Uttar Pradesh BJP leader Daya Shankar hurled intolerable derogatory remarks against Dalit leader Mayawati. "If such type of atrocities on Dalits are not checked by the said Ministry, then an agitation at national level would be started by the Dalit Samaj, warned the Association leaders. On the other hand, the Association leaders made a special appeal to the people of Kashmir to come forward in restoration of peace and harmony in the strife torn Valley, but strongly criticised Pakistan for playing a 'key role' in fuelling tension in the Valley. Besides, the Association resolved to observe the martyrdom of 1971 Indo-Pak War hero Lance Naik Mohan Lal Lakhotra who was awarded Vir Chakra (VrC) posthumously by the then President of India for displaying gallantry and determination of a high order in the battle field by killing as many as nineteen enemy soldiers including their company commander before laying down his life. The Association leaders said that observing the martyrdom of valiant soldiers depict the gratitude of the indebtedness people to national heroes who gave up their today for our safe tomorrow. |
