Early Times Report

Jammu Aug 7: Former minister and senior PCC leader Raman Bhalla today visited flood affected areas of Bahu Fort, Bathandi, Har Ke Podi, Azad Nagar and many other rain and flood affected areas of Gandhi Nagar Constituency and took stock of prevailing situation there.
Expressing serious concern over the situation arising out of the recent incessant rains in various localities of this constituency, Bhalla said that the Government must take the plight of people seriously, in view of heavy losses suffered by them in these areas as during last year also similar thing happened. The former minister said that the Congress party is very much concerned about the prevailing situation and the safety of the people. He assured the people that he will leave no stone unturned in extending all sort of help to affected people of these areas.
He emphasized that there is need for taking immediate measures for the safety of the people of these areas and demanded construction of embankments and dredging of the Nallahs passing through these localities on war footing to ensure free flow of water. He said the Government and the concerned agencies must be geared up for undertaking these measures. He also expressed concern over the loss by mid night heavy rains to household goods and other damages to the residential houses of these localities and impressed upon the Government to make an assessment of the loss and provide compensation to affected people immediately. Speaking on the occasion hesaid that the timely de-silting and clearing of nallahs before the onset of current rainy season could have saved the people from the hardships they are facing now a days in various localities of Gandhi Nagar constituency and other parts of the city due to flash floods after the start of rainy season. The failure of the Govt. on this count has multiplied this situation many folds due to inaction and timely step in this regard. He said that due to this reason the nallahs and drains got blocked and rain water inter into the houses and shops causing great loss to the people. Besides people of Jammu are already facing problem of prolong cut in power supply, shortage of drinking water and dilapidated condition of roads, lanes and drains.
he lashed out at centre and the state government for their failure to safeguard the interests of different sections of the society especially the downtrodden and weaker sections and minorities who feel deprived and insecure. The way weaker sections are united against BJP is an indication that bad days are ahead for the party in J&K also where reserved categories are already up in arms against anti-weaker sections policies being promoted by the State Government in which BJP is a partner.SCs are on the war-path against alleged conspiracy hatched by the coalition government to deprive them of their constitutional rights of promotion in the government jobs. The OBCs, on the other hand, feeling dejected because BJP leadership has not shown any interest to fulfil their demands.
Expressing serious concern over Kashmir unrest spillover in several areas of Jammu region, he demanded Govt to ensure all necessary arrangements for the upcoming Holy Machail Yatra to the Saphire Valley Paddar commencing on July 25 and the holy Chhari Mubarak will reach Kishtwar on August 18 and subsequently leave for Paddar on August 19. He demanded Govt to create an congenial environment where pilgrims feel secure and assured that their yatra will be incident free and this can only be done when Govt takes fool proof security arrangements to restore security and confidence among them. He also raised concern over smooth conduct of Buda Amarnath yatra as tension has already been witnessed in Poonch, Rajouri and Surankote area in wake of Kashmir unrest. He however raised alarm over criminal silence of BJP who is absolutely mum on all the Jammu based issues and despite partner in coalition Govt in state and in power at centre, it has badly failed to respect the sentiments of people of Jammu region who are highly religious and peace keeper and peace loving by failing to handle Shri Amarnath Ji yatra properly resulting in quite a decrease in pilgrimage from other states. Now they must ensure that none of the religious yatra should face any hurdles and it should be smooth and peaceful.
